FEBRUARY 2013 VOL. THREE ISSUE 2
FEBRUARIUS
This February brings us to look forward to winters close. The chill of January has left us all to wonder when sweet spring breezes will once again grace our doorstep. Alas, Mother Nature still sleeps in her winter slumber and we are left to bundle up in our warmest
coverings only to bear another day’s icy grip.

Ever wonder how February’s name came to be? The root name has both Latin and Roman
origins. Originally named Februarius; meaning purification. What a wise observation! Recently,
I stood in a window at the back of our home admiring the recent snowfall. I’ve
always been amazed at how clean and perfect the world appears after a fresh snowfall. It
is almost as if the snow washes away all of the negative aspects of our world. It’s
peaceful
and childlike, clean and pure. I now have to smile at the irony in my perception…it matches that of our forefathers thousands of years ago. We really aren’t that different from them,
are we? Fast-
forward to modern day society…the Finnish call the

month of February “The Mother of the Pearl”. They believe when snow melts on tree branches, it forms droplets, and as
they freeze again, they are like pearls of ice. Another good observation! February reminds us that there is another purpose in life. Just when we feel like our purpose may be waning, we learn that we have the opportunity to be repurposed to perform another day. In a way, this is the life of vintage and antique items. We, at Norwood and Nostalgia take pride in reviving and repurposing time-honored pieces for you to use, display and appreciate. I
hope you have the time to visit us this month. We’d love to see you. We’ll keep the fire
stoked and the coffee warm. Happy February!

Three words…All That Sparkles. Our Vendor of the Month
is actually a team. Michael Frum and Joe Hornbeck have  partnered to bring a whole new vantage point to the local antique world. These two have burst onto the scene with a shimmery punch like none other. Their creations are simply stunning! They certainly know how to employ every element of make-
believe in such a way that we’re convinced the illusion i
s
real. I believe part of their success is that they don’t fear to
give into the whimsy of life. They see the beauty in
everything and they’re not afraid to prove it to us.
Have you stopped by to see the windows at Nostalgia lately? If not, you must!
If so, aren’t t
hey smashing? Michael and Joe have loaned their expertise to dress one window in a flamboyant Mardi gras style and the other is a pristine fantasy bedroom for any girly-girl, big or small. After viewing the windows, step into Nostalgia
and you’
ll be drawn to the upper rooms
. I’m sure you’ll be delighted with
how
they’ve
transformed their rooms into a glittery dream world.
Be sure to check out their fanciful loft…simply climb
the purple staircase and step into a serene wonderland
that’
s sure to make you smile.
Michael and Joe…you’ve done a
great job!
Improper storage sometimes leads to stains, tears, rubs, bent corners, and other condition issues that can diminish the value of your Valentine.
The key to preserving Valentine’s Cards
is proper handling and storage. The main culprit that causes paper to deteriorate and yellow is acid. By using archival quality materials basically means the materials will not only protect the cards from wear and tear damage, but will not harm them by emitting chemicals. Be certain the clear inserts you purchase are made of PVC-free plastic to avoid this concern. Cheers for now!
