This Standard provides the requirements and guidelinesfor the qualification of active mechanical equipmentwhose function is required to ensure the safeoperation or safe shutdown of a nuclear facility. In additionto requirements and guidelines put forth in thisStandard, the active mechanical equipment shall complywith the requirements of the applicable design and constructioncodes and standards.

This Standard does not apply to electric componentssuch as motors, electric valve actuators, instrumentation,and controls, which are qualified by conformance withappropriate IEEE standards.
