This Code covers the design, construction, operation, inspection, testing, maintenance, alteration, and repairof the following equipment and its associated parts,rooms, spaces, and hoistways, where located in or adjacentto a building or structure:

(a) hoisting and lowering mechanisms, equippedwith a car, that move between two or more landings.This equipment includes, but is not limited to elevators.

(b) power-driven stairways and walkways for carryingpersons between landings. This equipmentincludes, but is not limited to escalators and movingwalks.

(c) hoisting and lowering mechanisms equipped witha car that serves two or more landings and is restrictedto the carrying of material by its limited size or limitedaccess to the car. This equipment includes, but is notlimited to dumbwaiters and material lifts; it does notinclude vertical reciprocating conveyors
