Monotonic strength values of materials like Yield Strength or Ultimate Tensile Strength are usuallydetermined with well-defined and well-established testing equipment and sample geometries. For manymaterials, a wide database exists which accelerates statistical analyses and determination of minimumvalues, however, cyclic stress-strain curves do not benefit from such an established knowledgebase. Fatiguetesting is much more complex than tensile testing, and different approaches exist in determining therepresentative hysteresis loop.
