IEEE 450-1975
IEEE Recommended Practice for Maintenance, Testing, and Replacement of Large Lead Storage Batteries for Generating Stations and Substations
standard by IEEE, 11/30/1974
Full Description
Scope
This document is limited to providing recommendedpractices of maintenance. testschedules, and testing procedures that can beused to optimize life and performance fromlarge lead storage batteries. It also providesguidance to determine when batteries shouldbe replaced. There are other test procedures and replacement techniques used within the industry (especially for smaller substation batteries) that are equally as effective but are beyond the scope of this document. Sizing. installation, otherre battery types, and application are also beyond the scope. This document does not include surveillance and testing of the dc system even though the battery is part of that system.
Abstract
Revision Standard - Superseded.Large stationary lead storage batteries play an ever increasing role in substation and generatingstation control systems and in providing the backup energy for emergencies. A definite need existswithin the industry for an application guide and testing procedure to provide a common or standardmethod for selecting, applying, and installing batteries to meet station requirements. However,to provide a guide that can be used for determining the available capacity of the battery (especially for nuclear stations), this document will limit its scope to recommended practice for lead storage battery maintenance, testing. and replacement.
